Root Canal Treatment in Surbiton, Surrey

At Surbiton Smile Centre, our priority is to save your natural teeth while keeping you comfortable. Root canal treatment is a routine procedure our experienced dentists carry out with precision and care, using the latest techniques and equipment. Whether your tooth has one simple root or several complex canals, we carefully remove infection, clean and seal the area, and restore strength with a filling or crown. Thanks to modern anaesthetic and gentle methods, most patients find the treatment no more uncomfortable than having a standard filling—helping you get back to smiling without pain or worry.

Understanding Root Canal Treatment and Its Key Benefits

Root canal treatment (endodontic therapy) is a procedure designed to save your natural tooth and protect your oral health. It is usually the preferred option over extraction because it preserves your smile and offers long-term benefits.

When the soft tissue inside the tooth (the pulp) becomes infected due to deep decay, cracks, or trauma, root canal treatment is needed. If left untreated, the infection can spread, causing pain or even tooth loss.

The treatment involves gently removing the infected pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the canals, and sealing them with a safe filling material. Finally, the tooth is restored with a crown or filling to provide strength and function.

Benefits of root canal treatment include:

  • Saving your natural tooth – maintains your bite and smile
  • Restoring comfort – relieves pain, toothache, and sensitivity
  • Strength and durability – with a crown, the tooth functions like normal
  • Stopping infection from spreading – protects surrounding teeth and gums
  • Cost-effectiveness – avoids more complex treatments like implants or bridges

In short, root canal treatment relieves pain, prevents further infection, and helps preserve your natural teeth for years to come.

Step-by-Step

Reasons For Root Canal Re-Treatment

Even though endodontic treatment is one of the most successful and predictable procedures in modern dentistry, failures can occur. Some indications of failure include swelling, soreness or the persistence of abscess at the root tip as identified in an X-ray. When this happens, a root canal revision procedure, also referred to as “re-treatment,” may be warranted.

  • Retained microorganisms (bacteria) in the root canal
  • Breakdown or corrosion of root canal filling materials
  • Contamination from decay or leakage from a failing restoration
  • Inoperable canals because of calcification or unusual anatomy
  • Sometimes tissues fail to heal for unknown reasons

Although re-treatment is technically more difficult than the original root canal, it can usually rescue a failing condition without having to consider surgery. We at Surbiton Smile Centre are especially well equipped to handle these difficult conditions because of our additional training and experience.

Endodontic Surgery

Conventional root canal treatment is not always sufficient to correct every patient’s condition. Occasionally, endodontic surgery is required. This is because a previous treatment has deteriorated or because anatomic considerations such as the shape of the tooth or canal space make the traditional root canal treatment especially difficult to complete.

Root Canal Treatment After Care

If you experience sensitivity following a root canal session, we recommend you take an anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen to reduce inflammation, which will in turn reduce pain. You may also want to apply ice to the outside of your face next to the tooth, keeping the head elevated.

Under no circumstances should you apply heat to the outside of your face. Consistent medication is the key to comfort. It is essential to follow your dentist orders by taking prescribed medications to alleviate pain and to help prevent or fight infection.

Avoid hard or sticky foods until the final crown or filling is placed.

If discomfort lasts more than a few days or if you have severe pain or swelling, call our office. We will suggest medication or other steps to make you more comfortable

I needed quite a bit of dental work so went to a few different surgeries to get their opinions. I chose Surbiton Smile Centre because Dr Soltani actually gave me options – all of which would work to varying degrees and, significantly, to varying costs. She took the time to try the most cost-effective option, but always with the possibility of shifting course if needed. Eventually, to get my teeth decently functional, I needed quite a few crowns – including on front teeth. She allowed me time to get used to the adjustments as the process went on, and always made sure each stage was both comfortable and looked good. I am very pleased with the result, again both aesthetically and functionally. Would most heartily recommend!

Gareth Davies

I recommend my dentist, Simin with the highest regard. Over the years, she has transformed my problematic mouth to a smile of stable, healthy teeth.
Simin has restored an old implant for me and also inserted a new one. She has helped me with crowns and also replaced old black fillings with natural looking white ones. Simin has always been very professional, kind and helpful.
Thank you Simin!
