CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is an advanced dental technology that allows us to design, create, and place high-quality ceramic restorations, such as crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers, all in a single visit.
Using a 3D digital scanner, CEREC captures detailed images of your tooth, eliminating the need for traditional impressions. Then, a computer designs a custom restoration, which is milled right here in the practice from durable, natural-looking ceramic materials.
What Are CEREC Inlays & Onlays?
At Surbiton Dental Studio, we offer inlays and onlays as strong, long-lasting solutions for restoring damaged or decayed teeth, especially when a regular filling isn’t enough, but a full crown isn’t yet needed.
- Inlay: A custom-made piece that fits inside the grooves of a tooth (usually a molar) to restore the chewing surface after decay is removed.
- Onlay: Similar to an inlay, but it extends over one or more cusps (the raised edges of the tooth), covering a larger area without requiring a full crown.
Both are typically made from porcelain, composite resin, or gold and are cemented into place for a precise fit and excellent durability.

Principal Dentist and founder of Surbiton Smile Centre since 2002, brings over 31 years of global experience, trained at the Karolinska Institute (Stockholm), Eastman (London), and Münster, Germany.
Specialising in cosmetic dentistry and implantology, she holds a Master’s in Oral Medicine & Implantology and is skilled in bone grafting, sinus lifts, Dental veneers, dental crowns, and full-mouth rehabilitations.

I needed quite a bit of dental work so went to a few different surgeries to get their opinions. I chose Surbiton Smile Centre because Dr Soltani actually gave me options – all of which would work to varying degrees and, significantly, to varying costs. She took the time to try the most cost-effective option, but always with the possibility of shifting course if needed. Eventually, to get my teeth decently functional, I needed quite a few crowns – including on front teeth. She allowed me time to get used to the adjustments as the process went on, and always made sure each stage was both comfortable and looked good.
